A proposal to disrupt the legal fraud between CBS News Paramount’s parent and President Trump includes the Tiffany network that runs millions of dollars in public service advertising for reasons calling on administration, money has learned.
The idea was navigated in recent days by the people involved in the explosive legal dispute as part of a long -term solution, sources said.
PSA would include Paramount’s CBS News affiliate – the defendant in Trump’s controversial lawsuit $ 20 billion – executing what would be paid advertising on its platforms that address issues such as anti -Semitism in American society that followed the October 7 Jewish Massacre.
Spots will also promote issues that support veterans, these people add. Sources close to the matter say Trump’s legal team likes the idea. It is unclear if the legal team Paramount is supportive.
Reps for Paramount and the White House refused to comment. Both sides are in mediation on Trump’s lawsuit against the media giant for the suspected fraudulent editing of a “60 minutes” interview with Kamala Harris.
In order for the mediator in the case of consideration of the proposal and make it part of the negotiation discussions, both parties must formally verify the idea and take a sign from management.
The settlement plan comes as the parties involved require a common ground to give the judicial case. Trump has taken steps to seal anti -Semitism, especially on college campuses, since he returned to the White House.
Paramount Shari Redstone’s controlling shareholder has also spoken against anti -Semitism since October 7 and has even been critical of how CBS has covered the issue.
As in the first reported money, Redstone is ready to pay Trump up to $ 50m to resolve the issue and get a deal.
She has so far removed herself from negotiations, leaving decision -making on her senior management team.
But management has been reluctant to reach an agreement involving the submission of considerable money to Trump, concerned that such a large payment may go into laws against bribery since its assigned chief of the Federal Communication Commission still has to approve the Skydance Agreement for money reported earlier.
In addition to high -interest legal clash, the lawsuit is also seen as a major obstacle to obtaining the Trump administration to approve a plan from media heirs to sell the Skydance Independent Studio for $ 8 billion.
FCC leader Brendan Carr is investigating whether CBS broke the “public interest” rules that regulate the use of public air waves (compared to cable) by displaying left -wing prejudice in his news programming. Harris interview is a central point of the investigation that has delayed the agreement for an indefinite time.
If approved, however, Redstone would leave $ 2 billion and guard some of the assets left by her late father, King of Media-Merger Sumner Redstone.
The controversy over the lawsuit – and the possibility of a solution with Trump – has destroyed CBS in recent weeks. CBS News Chief Wendy McMahon resigned earlier this month, saying: “Become is made clear that the company and I disagree on the road ahead.”
In April, the “60 -minute” chief Bill Owens left, citing increased pressure from senior management during his programming.
Sources said Trump’s legal team wants a solution along the lines of what it received from ABC and Disney, which he sued for defamation. ABC made a $ 16 million payment and issued an apology for misunderstanding the facts surrounding a civil trial against Trump.
