President Trump is ready to extend the TIKTOK ban deadline – for the third time – while the White House and China are preparing to hold trade talks, they have learned about money.
The previous extension of the law which forces the Chinese parent company to sell the popular video sharing application to the June 19, but both nations are expected to have been eating their tariffs this week.
“The president has said he is ready to (announce another addition) if it should happen,” a government official known for the president’s opinion was told about the money on Tuesday.
The Chinese “just want to keep this as a lever in trade talks,” the official added.
A Wall Street banker involved in the deal to sell the US investors’ app said Trump may be persuaded to allow Tiktok to “darken” and disappear from application stores on June 19, if he believes he will give him a strategic advantage in the complex and negotiations of the Chinese accusing trade deals.
A White House spokesman did not return a comment call.
Tiktok, although very popular, has been criticized for allegedly relating US data as part of a Chinese government’s attempt to spy on American citizens.
The company has denied the charges.
However, the Biden administration signed the law of removal or residence, which was scheduled to enter into force on January 19-a day before Trump’s inauguration.
Trump immediately signed an executive order postponing the detention for 90 days and announced a second extension in early April-as a group of US investors were ready to create a framework that would allow Tiktok to be controlled by a wholesale company.
The consortium of private sector players, if the agreement is completed, will be led by the Oracle technology giant, founded by Trump Larry Ellison’s friend and supporter, as in the money previously reported.
The deal went sideways as Trump launched his “Erationing Liberation Day” fight with particularly difficult sanctions against China – a 145% rate, which lowered to 30% last month after both sides began talks on a final agreement, as it reported for the first time.
Trump, once a set critic Tiktok who sought his detention again during his first term, has then been converted. He believes that the app, popular with young Americans, helped him be elected in 2024.
